In early March of 2001, we welcomed a new golden retriever to our family. We weren't expecting to get a pup until spring, but fate stepped in. The litter born December 2000 to HuntChase Goldens (breeder Mike Butler) was expected to have six pups. All were promised to other homes. But when Brooke had her puppies, there were ten! So we were able to reserve one.
Since we unexpectedly got a winter baby, we named our little guy Lumilapsi (LOO-mee LAHP-see)," which is Finnish for "snow child." Lumi's official AKC registered name is "HuntChase's Alabama Jubilee." Not a very Finnish or wintry title! It derives from a traditional southern song. This name has meaning for us, too. We were visiting Diane's mom in Alabama when we learned there were golden puppies available. We were all pretty jubilant! Also, the name is in keeping with HuntChase's theme for this litter, "Songs of the South."

Heeeere's Lumi!
With Mike's help, we picked this adorable little munchkin as our new family member. He's 7-1/2 weeks old here.
THE HOMECOMING!
Lumi came to live at our house on March 10, 2001, at 11-1/2 weeks old.
During his first day with us, he was a very busy boy!
